International Conference – “Reshaping Territories, Environment and Societies: New Challenges for Geography”
In the period November 15–16, 2024, participated in the International Conference “Re-shaping Territories, Environment and Societies: New Challenges for Geography”, organized by the Faculty of Geography, University of Bucharest.
The objective of the organizers was to generate a conducive environment for the exchange of ideas and practice between the fields of applied research and teaching in both higher and school education. The debates focused on: space and place, natural/physical environment, global change, economic crisis, environmental crisis, water crisis and global warming, policy development, political dimensions in developing societies, development forecast, project implementation and the challenges of educational reform on the ground. both for the Romanian environment and for other European countries.
On the first day of the conference, Ms. Maria–Laura TÎRLĂ, GIS specialist within the project, presented the paper entitled: Cave restoration, depollution and monitoring
in the Cheile Nerei-Beușnița Natura 2000 site (ROSCI0031, SW Romania).
Three workshops were organized during the conference and several topics were addressed:

- Physical and human landscapes in urban and rural areas
- Weather, water and climate: sustainable living, spatial disparities and persistent divisions
- Ecosystems, biodiversity and sustainable resource management: concentrations, convergence and integration
- Geography, globalization and smart development
- Teaching geography: trends, frontiers and barriers
Workshops
- GeoHealth Nexus: addressing progress, crisis and resilience in health and healthcare
- Ecosystem services in urban and peri-urban landscapes
- Modelling, mapping and assessing land degradation for sustainable management of land systems
