The Project area is very important at regional and national level as it represents the center of the largest karst areas in Romania (Sinclinoriul Resita – Moldova Noua 800 km2), basically having the greatest potential for development of habitat 8310.
The number of units of 8310 habitat of the site Cheile Nerei – Beusnita is regionally (Caras Severin) accounted for 25% and at nationally (Romania) for 4.2%, while that now is not carried out a full inventory and the prospects are to increase the number of caves.
The 14 species of bats that are on the site represent 45% of all species of bats in Romania.
The project is important for biodiversity conservation as a whole since the 8310 habitat has direct functional link with other protected habitats or priority (7220 Petrifying springs with travertine deposit, 8210 chasmophytic vegetated rocky slopes on limestone rocks).
The 8310 habitat is also important because it is temporarily or accidentally habitat for species of large mammals, amphibians, reptiles, birds.
